eating/drinking: water. i'm in between running and jillian michaels 30 day shred
feeling: tired, but better than i was this morning. night shift has finally started exhausting me and i feel like all i want to do is sleep on the weekends
listening: to my dog gnawing on his foot, the cat's collar jingling while she licks her paws, and the tv
watching: a re-run of castle; my current favorite show to watch massive amounts of re-runs of
reading: bitter harvest by michael hicks; yes, i'm still working on that one (it's good, i've just been slack on reading lately)
loving: that i'm finally able to run 40 minutes without becoming out of breath. my former preceptor at work convinced me to slow my butt down until my lungs can catch up and while i hate running 14 minute miles at least i'm doing it! also, trader joe's cookie butter and dogfish head beer
disliking: my sheer exhaustion all of the time (not to mention a few other things, but i'll save those rants for a later post)
thinking: the same blank canvas has been sitting on the easel for weeks now. i told my husband i'm going to just sign my name at the bottom and title it "empty dreams"
hoping: i can get out of this mental slump sometime soon
wishing: that all of this exercising would actually result in some sort of weight loss but no, my body hangs on to fat like it's about to be starving on a deserted island
Tomorrow will mark my divorce from Facebook at 2 weeks; I actually cannot believe that I haven't even had the urge to get on there once. I guess that's a sign that it really wasn't for me anymore. I do, however, love Instagram- so if you have an account and I don't follow you, please let me know what your username is!

**I'm writing this post for my youngest sister, because she is the most entertained by my weakness and inability to maintain my splits from Facebook**
AB and I have both decided to [try to] give up Facebook. I go through an "It's time to give up FB" phase every few months, but after looking at my news feed this morning I have decided that it's time to try...again. I'm not sure why I always go back to it; I honestly think it's a boredom thing, however, I have managed to load myself up with other total wastes of time so I think I may be ready.
Aside from the fact that I already have 2/3 of my friend list hidden from view, I have progressively felt like FB has transitioned from "Look at me! My life is so awesome! Let me post cool photos for you to be jealous of" to "Save the world! Fight racism! Outlaw abortion! Obama is evil! More gun control! Let the illegals have free education while the citizens have to pay for it!" and to be honest, I can read the news for that (if even then; sometimes ignorance is bliss). I don't want to know that my coworker/cousin/close friend believes that rape victims should be forced to have their rape babies- I actually prefer to continue liking those people rather than wanting to strangle them. I've seen FB ruin relationships and I'm not interested in being a victim.
With that being said, I am, for the 27th time, going to deactivate my FB account and do my absolute best to not return to it. I will no doubt miss seeing people's photos, and keeping in touch with some family members in other states, but I don't feel like it's worth the frustration or disgust that I feel 90% of the times when I log on.
So Alex, here I go again....

New Year's & Edamame
Being the first of the year, my parents invited me over for their traditional January 1st lunch/dinner of ham, black-eyed peas, collard greens, and biscuits. I believe the collard greens are supposed to symbolize money and the peas good luck, but I guess in the past I just haven't eaten enough of them to do any good! I also went on a nice walk with my mom, sister, and Stetson despite the continuous drizzle.
AB worked last night and again tonight, so I left my parent's in time to get home and spend a few hours with him before he had to leave. The rain had picked up so unfortunately the dogs didn't get their nightly walk (and it's still raining right now) but they're suffering by lying all over the bed instead. Poor dogs; so abused!
In keeping with my goal of exercising more, I hauled my [slightly large] butt onto the elliptical and got in a [sweaty] 30 minute workout, followed by...
I am limiting myself to alcohol once a week so I guess today is my one day for the week! I've also gone ~24 hours without Facebook and haven't been tempted to even get on AB's to stalk people...yet.
Oh, and did anyone notice the lovely oral herpes sore on Jenny McCarthy's NYE sailor?

New Year's
Today I spent my afternoon at work and was lucky enough to get to leave early; for whatever reason people are smart enough to not all want surgery over the holidays. That will change soon though; give it a couple of weeks when all the surgeons return from the Cayman Islands. My shift was fairly uneventful, except for the non-patient who projectile vomited right beside me in the cafeteria; talk about an appetite suppressant- I wasn't hungry the rest of the day (anyone surprised? no?).
Anyways, I'm now getting to enjoy my New Year's Eve with a glass of wine, my furbabies, and the TV (AB has to work the night shift). There was one year where I went to a party for NYE but to be honest, it's just not my thing. I prefer drinking on my couch by the fire in my own home. No need to dress up and go out just to spend time in a strange bathroom half the night (peeing, I have a small bladder).
Now that I've deleted my FB as of 30 minutes ago (and backed up all of my pictures) I have a LOT of extra time to do other things, namely clean, read, and plan some healthier meals. I will get more in shape in 2013 damnit! Let's see if this time I make it without being weak (and I'm talking about FB and eating better).
I wish everyone a Happy & Safe New Year's! I guess the Mayans were wrong...

Goals for 2013
I don't really like making resolutions, because I always fail at them; usually within the first month. This year I'm settings goals- things that I want to achieve by the end of the year or manage to consistently do throughout the year. I figure if I put them on my blog I'm held more accountable than when I write it on a sticky note and promptly lose it.
- Do 1 random act of kindness every week for the entire year (and hopefully record it on this blog so I know I did something)
- Blog at least 4 times a week. I've had this blog for 4 years and every year I go MIA for months
- Exercise every single day for a minimum of 30 minutes regardless of the weather, if I'm working or not, or my mood. This doesn't include the 2 walks/day the dogs get. I'm not aiming for weight loss this year but I would LOVE to be more in shape- preferably a 6-pack although even a 2-pack would be fabulous
- Get back into riding horses and comfortably be jumping 2' by the end of the year (my first lesson is next week so that's a start)
- Relearn to play "Wedding Day at Trouldhagen" on the piano. It's the last piece I played when taking lessons from my Grandma; it was long and hard so if I can play it again I'm doing well
- Buy a bike and then start riding it. AB loves mountain biking; I don't think I've even sat on one for several years
- Visit somewhere tropical...b/c it's time to and my passport never gets used
- Read at least 1 book a week (and be sure to list it on here for others to try)
- Pay off the vet credit cards- while this is personal everyone on here knows my dog is being treated for cancer and most people can assume it's not cheap
- Start writing a book. As a second part to that, write several chapters before giving up and dumping it in the recycle bin. I'm thinking I should participate in NaNoWriMo 2013 in November...
- Find a job I enjoy (don't laugh, I'm sure it's possible)
- Do a better job of staying in touch with relatives. How I plan to do that TBD
- Be done with Facebook...for real this time
There are plenty of other things I need or want to do, but maybe if I aim low[er] I'll actually succeed at most of them. Any support is appreciated.
