Next week

Tomorrow we head to Utah to do a little skiing. I'm excited, yet crossing all fingers that Alister especially doesn't break anything...again. Once I get back I'll pick up on a NaBloPoMo month to make up for all this absence.

This Weekend...

We got a brand new Honda Civic and I celebrated my birthday [early] with family. Good times. 4 days of work and then skiing in Utah. I wanted to post pictures but my usually agreeable iPhone won't send them to me. Fail. I'll try again in a bit.

Busy

It's been a very busy week- I've worked every day on top of running my 5k on Tuesday. Work has been hectic b/c for some reason the hospital has been at capacity and surgeons still do surgeries with no beds for their patients to go to...so PACU has been SLAMMED. Today was as crazy as yesterday- but at least I'm getting much more confident with it all. I'm off again until next Monday- so I'm thankful for the break- and then it's 4 days until our ski trip- yay! I'll try to post more this weekend...thinking of doing NaBloPoMo next month.

Success!

This morning before work I got up and ran my first 5k. It took me a whopping 35:53 but I ran the whole way and could still breathe at the end. Now I'm actually looking forward to the next one. :-)

And Happy Hallmark Holiday to everyone.

Bean-corn-something

I found a recipe for some yummy sounding soup/chili on a random blog (and I so wish I had bookmarked it but I didn't) so I decided to attempt cooking tonight. Below is the recipe and the starred items I added in. AB and I piled it on baked potatoes with cheese/sour cream. Good stuff. You could also put it in a tortilla.
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 package mild taco seasoning mix
  • 1-16 oz can corn (undrained)
  • 1-16 oz can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1-14 oz can stewed tomatoes
  • 1-14 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 1-8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 1-4 oz can diced green chilis
  • 1 green pepper, chopped*
  • 1 cup of mushrooms, chopped*
  • 1-16 oz can Great Northern Beans, drained and rinsed*
  • Any topics you may like- avacados, sour cream, cheese, etc
Brown meat and onion/pepper/mushroom, drain. Stir in taco seasoning, corn, beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, and green chilis. Simmer on low heat for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve with tortilla chips and your favorite toppings OR on a baked potato :-)

After cooking, let soup cool down and then dump into a gallon-sized Ziploc bag or other freezer container. When you want to eat it, let it thaw in the fridge for 24 hours and then simmer on the stove until heated all the way through or microwave until heated all the way through. You could also put it in your crock pot and cook on low for 2-3 hours to re-heat it.

Updates

Because I'm super-lame at updating these days (I feel another NaBloPoMo month coming on):
  • The norovirus is gone; I gained all the weight back
  • My first 5k is next Tuesday and I've been a slacker since I was sick
  • I'm glad I'm back in PACU- I miss the pre-op people but at least I stay busy
  • I spent the last weekend at my parent's with Alex and Laird; we also took some family pics so I'll post a few below
  • I'm going to see them tomorrow b/c they leave Thursday (sad face)
  • And....21 days until Utah
[The last one was for my uncle Pat]

Norovirus

Well, I guess the Kanki idea wasn't the greatest after all. Monday evening Alex texted to let me know she was puking, etc. I figured she ate something bad that day...until I woke up at 130am Tuesday morning puking, etc and wanting to die. I called in to work (since I slept in front of the toilet) only to find out Tuesday morning that 1/2 of our dinner party was all going through the same thing. AB called the restaurant, and no other tables had the same problem- which means it was probably our friends that gave it to us since they had been infected last week with the same GI issues. Yay. Today I'm finally starting to feel better, but definitely still oozy and weak. Didn't lose a single freaking pound though. Sigh. I think Alex lost about 8. What's a good stomach virus if the scale doesn't budge???

Tomorrow I'm headed back to work; I probably shouldn't since I'm most likely still contagious, but if I miss another day I won't have enough PTO for Utah. Fail. I'll just have to keep it extra clean and not wipe my feces on anything.
